FOLKS, THIS IS INDEED, THE RAREST VARIATION OF FIRST STATE STEREO (OR ANY) BUTCHER COVER OUT THERE! IT'S ONLY THE SECOND EXAMPLE I'VE EVER OFFERED ON EBAY! COMPLETE WITH RECORD AND INNER SLEEVE.
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL NEAR MINT- (or extremely close to that!) ORIGINAL 'JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS' ISSUE OF THE 1966 FIRST STATE STEREO BUTCHER VERSION OF THE CLASSIC BEATLES ALBUM, ' YESTERDAY & TODAY '! (Capitol ST-2553). IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION FRONT AND BACK! THE COVER RETAINS THE ORIGINAL SHRINKWRAP ON ONLY A SMALL PIECE OF THE WRAP MISSING ABOUT 1" X 1.5" AT THE TOP RIGHT. NO CREASES!, NO WEAR! ONLY A VERY SMALL FRACTURE (1/2") AT THE TOP RIGHT SEAM END WITH SOME AGE MELLOWING IN THAT AREA. VERY SMALL INDEED and THE COVER IS TOTALLY NEAR MINT OTHERWISE! WHAT IS MOST RARE ABOUT THIS ALBUM COVER IS THE FACT THAT IT IS FROM THE 'JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS FACTORY!! (IDENTIFIABLE BY THE #4 ON THE LOWER RIGHT BACK CORNER.) THIS PARTICULAR VERSION IS THE RAREST OF ALL BUTCHER COVERS MADE ANYWHERE! (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF POSSIBLY THE MONO CANADIAN ISSUE WHICH IS EQUALLY AS RARE. AND OF COURSE, STEREO COPIES OF THAT ONE HAVE NOT BEEN VERIFIED FROM CANADA!) ALSO NOTE THE WIDER AND LIGHTER COLORED "STEREOPHONIC" BANNER AT THE TOP OF THE FRONT COVER ON THIS JACKSONVILLE EXAMPLE! A NICE VG+++ RECORD IS INCLUDED WITH NEAR MINT LABEL. IT IS ALSO A JACKSONVILLE PRESSING. AND FINALLY THE ORIGINAL CAPITOL COMPANY INNER SLEEVE IS INCLUDED ALONG WITH A COPY OF THE LETTER OF RECALL FROM CAPITOL ASKING FOR THE CONTROVERSIAL ALBUM'S RETURN BACK IN 1966! (It is a copy, not the original document.) i WILL INCLUDED MY LETTER OF AUTHENTICITY FOR THIS ALBUM .......INCREDIBLE INDEED, AND IT'S ONE OF ONLY ABOUT 4 OR 5 EVER VERIFIED TO EXIST! Note there is a hight level of rarity between the different factories who produced the butcher covers. Besides the rarity factors, there are definite variants between the butchers themselves. For example, the "stereo banner" on this one compared to the #5 Los Angeles example is considerably different. The LA example is somewhat narrower and much darker in color. The Butcher photo itself varies and has different tones and tints. Very notable when held side by side. This #4 Butcher is also more fragile with glossy back and spine paper making nice examples such as this very difficult to come by. Bottom line is that this Jacksonville variation is far scarcer than the other versions that exist. There really are only 3 total Stereo Variations to consider owning. The #5 (Los Angeles), and the Scranton, Pa, #2 (rare, but not as rare as this one), and finally this one from Jacksonville (#4) being the rarest of them all. Most of the #4 examples were destroyed by Capitol. You simply rarely ever see them. The ones that do exist came from a former executive who grabbed a small handful before the rest were totally destroyed! CHECK OUT THE PICTURES AND ENJOY! NOTE: THE SMALL STICKER ON THE FRONT IS THE REMNANT OF A RETAIL PRICE STICKER. I cannot confirm if it's the original retail sticker from the album's purchase or not. It may be. A very very small amount of Butcher Covers have been confirmed as making it to the retail level back in 1966, but not many at all.
