A: Noahlink Wireless is a new industry-standard programming interface based on the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) standard, also known as Bluetooth Smart. This means that Noahlink Wireless can provide completely wireless programming between your computer and BLE enabled hearing instruments.
Q: Is Noahlink Wireless hard to install and use? A: Just plug it into your computer and it is ready to program BLE enable hearing instruments from several hearing instrument companies. A: Noahlink Wireless can be used to program BLE enable hearing instruments from several different hearing instrument companies, and the number is growing. For a complete list of licensed manufacturers, click on Noahlink Wireless at www.himsa.com. It is up to each hearing instrument manufacturer to determine which of their programmable hearing instruments will be Noahlink Wireless compatible. HIMSA will certify Noah modules for use with Noahlink Wireless, and a list of these modules will be available on our website (www.himsa.com).
Q: Does Noahlink Wireless replace my current NOAHlink or HI-PRO interface?
A: Noahlink Wireless can only program hearing instruments which have integrated BLE communication. For other hearing instruments you will still need your current programming interface.
Q: Can I use Noahlink Wireless and NOAHlink on the same computer?
A: Since Noahlink Wireless and NOAHlink use different types of connections, there should be no problem in using both interfaces on the same computer. It is up to your Noah module to decide which interface to use for each hearing instrument. Noahlink Wireless www.himsa.com
Q: I’ve heard that Bluetooth is a radio technology. Will NOAHlink interfere with my patients’ Assistive Listening Devices?
A: The currently available FM Assistive Listening Device (ALD) systems operate in either the 72.1 - 75.9 MHz or 216-217 MHz band. Since Bluetooth Low Energy operates in the 2400 - 2483.5 MHz band, HIMSA does not anticipate any interference issues with personal or wide area ALD’s.
Q: Will BLE signals from Noahlink Wireless interfere with other signals or pose any danger?
A: Bluetooth Low Energy communication is designed for optimal flexibility without interference. The recommended distance between your Noahlink Wireless and a hearing instrument is 3 meters, but in an undisturbed environment with free line of sight, you may experience satisfactory performance at a distance of up to 10 meters. As with other BLE devices, there is no evidence that the Bluetooth signal used by Noahlink Wireless is in any way harmful to you, your patients with active implants (such as pacemakers) or to unborn children. Q: What do I do if I need service or support for a Noahlink Wireless unit?
